Open Referral Blog Post - WCFC: developing the resource directory information supply chain

In 2021, the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) began receiving funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration to implement the Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (ECCS): Health Integration Prenatal-to-Three initiative. As part of this initiative, DOH and partners, including WCFC, are working to increase families’ access to local and culturally relevant services. During the initial stage of the project, WCFC and partners identified opportunities to assess Washington’s resource directory activities and promote alignment, to reduce duplicative labor and improve information quality.

WCFC partnered with Open Referral’s leadership to design and facilitate their strategy – and we are excited to share the report from the second phase of our work

Safe Haven 24-hour Hotline has a New Number: 1-888-510-2229

  • Correct Hotline (call or text): The correct Safe Haven Hotline number is: 1-888-510-2229. All designated drop-off locations in the state are requested to update or replace any signs posted at their facility or website. Mounting a Safe Haven sign with accurate information, including the phone number, could save the life of a vulnerable newborn. You can order new signs through the National Safe Haven Alliance.

  • Limited availability for free Safe Haven signs for locations with financial need: We are committed to better supporting the health of all Washingtonians. If replacing the sign is a financial hardship for your organization, DOH has limited funding to purchase and mail the signs to you. Organizations with a financial need can complete the Safe Haven Signage Request Form (wa.gov).

  • Share information with partners: Please share this critical change with your community partners.

Data Analysis: Family Voices in Washington State

Background & Purpose: Qualitative and quantitative data related to families’ wellbeing, experiences, and needs has been collected by various programs within WA DOH, other State agencies, and community partners throughout the years. This data has not been compiled and analyzed as a collective. To assess, understand, and support the needs of Washington communities and the families within them, this project aims to identify, gather, and analyze existing data for the purpose of informing the social norms and policy work within the Essentials for Childhood program.
